Every now and then, my work doesn’t feel like work. This week, I had the honour of attending the launch of a wonderful publication from Rekindle London. They are a collective of young people creating positive change in Lambeth, south London.
The ongoing Cost-of-Living crisis was the catalyst for the project. They have responded to the issue of food insecurity in a brilliantly practical way. Working with staff at Lambeth & Croydon Food Bank they learnt about the financial challenges local people are facing. Their response? The most beautiful cookbook entitled, Everyone Deserves a Full Plate.
Using the content of a food bank parcel as inspiration, the young people have created delicious, nutritious, low-cost recipes using those ingredients. Plus, they’ve included their thoughts, stories; even an ode to one mum’s sticky ribs! There were some very proud parents in the room!
Massive thanks for the warm welcome and the gorgeous food! Bringing some light in these challenging times, I was so heartened to see the young people’s commitment to making change in such a creative way. Love it!
